8 am - 6:30 pm Fun Forest Pool

We will meet on Friday at 5pm at the Glass Recreation Center to register, pay, and begin class. The Recreation center is located at 501 W. 32nd St.

Plan on spending Friday evening in the classroom. We will meet again at the Glass Recreation Center Saturday morning for classroom and land based skills training. Please bring $5 on Sat and Sun for lunch or bring your own lunch. We will not leave for lunch, but will order in Pizza so that we may continue training. Please bring plenty of healthy snacks and drinks for all class days. You will need the extra energy. I will do my best to provide a large cooler with ice for your drinks at the pool. Bring Sunscreen! And wear it!

Fun Forest Pool is located at 900 N. Glenwood. It is pretty much located on the corner of Glenwood and Gentry. Most likely, we will be heading over to the pool near lunch time on Saturday. If you need a ride, we will make sure you get to the pool from the classroom.

Ladies, you “must not wear” 2 piece bikinis. You may wear a 2-piece official Lifeguard suit, but a 1 piece competitive or Lifeguard suit is best. If you wear contacts, plan to wear glasses for in water training. You are not allowed, per Red Cross guidelines, to wear goggles during skills training. Everyone may wear goggles during lap swimming and any stroke refinement swims but there will be very little swimming beyond what is needed for skills development. Jewelry should not be worn and finger nails must be short to avoid loss and injury. Lifeguard Training is hands on and aggressive rescues are essential to developing strong life-saving skills. Therefore, the above restrictions must be adhered to throughout the course as a matter of safety.

You will be filling out an online course record. You must provide a unique and personal email address and phone number. They cannot be school related.

If you have been on the website, you may have noticed many pictures of others taking classes. If you would like a copy of the pictures we get from your class, please bring a thumb drive with 3 or more gigs available and I will be happy to copy them to the drive. Of course that is free. Another thing you might want to consider is “Friending” me on FB so that I can add you to my Lifeguard group so that I can let you know about extra jobs that come up from time to time. Those jobs will pay at least $25 per hour with a 4-hour minimum.

Address:
15143 CAMP TYLER ROAD, WHITEHOUSE, TX 75791

We will meet on Friday at 5pm to register, pay and begin class. Payment should be cash or a money order/check made payable to Randy Plaza.  We will conclude class at 10pm.

Sat/Sun class will begin at 8am and end each day around 6pm.

This is a challenging course conducted in an open water environment. Many skills are performed in water where you can stand and many are performed in deeper water.

Also, If you want to camp-out during this weekend click on the Camp Tyler link above and call Audra to register.  It's just $5 per night to camp.  We have several Boy Scout folks camping, so it will be a lot of fun.  You can tent camp but they have an enclosed T-Pee lodge as well.

I strongly recommend that all participants bring a shorty style wetsuit because the water may still be fairly cool at this time of the year. Training must continue as scheduled so participants must be prepaired for all water/weather conditions.

With that said,  the training is a lot of fun and a lot of work in a brief amount of time.  Please bring plenty of snacks and drinks along with a lunch or lunch money as we typically send out for pizza.  We will not leave for lunch.   Instead, we will take a working lunch so the training may not be interupted.

You will need to bring appropriate clothing for classroom and water activities. There will be no water activities on Friday. Please bring common items for lake/beach activities such as towel, sunblock, etc... please wear glasses for water activities if needed.  Contact lenses will definitely be lost during water activities. I recommend that glasses be secured with a retention strap as well.

Swim wear for the ladies must be a one piece competitive style suit or a two piece lifeguard style suite. Bikinis or other styles are not allowed during training.  Ladies may wear shorts and/or a thin shirt over the above designated suits. Please have hair in ponnie tail or other style to prevent it getting into your face while in water.

Men must wear a lifeguard style or board shorts. A thin shirt may also be worn. Mens bikinis and thin speedos are not permitted.

Again, you will need a shorty style wetsuite.  These can be found at stores such as Academy or online.  Do not wear thick gauge suits  You will not be able to submerge with these thick suits on.

Remember, this is a hands on and challenging training. Jewlery and inapropriate clothing can be damaged and can lead to injury so these can not be permitted.

You will need to provide a personal and unique email address and phone number for certification purposes. It must-not be associated with a school. You will receive your certifications via this email address. School servers will not allow this email because it had a functional link within it. When you receive this email, you will need to open it and click on that link to provide Red Cross some bio info. The link will then become your permanent certification. Do not delete this email. You will always be able to view/print/email/etc... your cert from this email.
